Toddle Along Tuesday: Cloth Diapering and my spatula.

When I saw that this week's TAT would be Cloth Diapers, I couldn't wait to blog about my experiences so far with cloth diapering.

So to start off, before I had Wilson, I had read up on cloth diapering. I thought, "Oh, I will save money! Oh, I will be more eco-friendly! This sounds great!"

And then looking at my two bedroom apartment with no washer/dryer hookup, reality hit me.
 There was no way for us cloth diapering would be affordable if we were having to pay over 3.00 to use the laundry facility. Frankly, the facility was uber creepy in the basement in another building. I was scared someone would steal my stuff. So, I had to scrap that plan until we moved to where I would have my own washer and dryer.
I had read of some people being able to make not having their own laundry work, but for me, I just didn't want to do it.

So when we finally moved, I finally was able to invest in my stash and start my adventures in cloth diapering.

I have to say though, having my son in disposables for his first year in life, I realized how easy I had it.

I had a lot of messups in the beginning.  Leaks and rashes galore. I was so lazy because of my disposables that instead of really trying to commit to it, I decided I'd give up and go back to disposables.

Plus poop talk here, Wilson didn't have those perfect turds that would just roll off into the toilet. His were always smushy. Sometimes they were just CAKED in there. I invested in a pair of rubber gloves and would sit over the toilet with a brush just trying to scrub poop out.

UGH. So yeah. I was like "Screw this."

Then, I decided with Callie that she would be cloth diapered from the beginning. I blamed my laziness and failure with Wilson because I had started too late.

So I invested in some with her as well, because of course I HAD to get some girly prints for her right?

I didn't buy any newborn diapers. I instead waited until she fit the smalls I had bought. I'm glad I didn't though. Adjusting to now two little ones, one an 18 month old and one a newborn, I'm pretty sure I couldn't have handled it.

 I started slacking again, I had been buying disposables for Wilson and started to buy one for Callie. I reasoned it by saying "Oh, for when we go out. My wetbag sucks. The cloths take up so much room."

Soon enough, buying her a small pack, ended up a box, and for about a month and a half, I was now buying 2 boxes, one for Wilson and one for her. Watching our money go down the drain, when in the laundry room, I had an investment of about 200-350 dollars just sitting there not being used. (I had scored an awesome deal on some used cloth diapers for Wilson)

So here I am now, back in FULL force with diapering both kiddos. I'm committed to washing their diapers every day, even if I'm lazy, even if I don't want to do it.

I've been 100% cloth diapering both for about 2 weeks now. I've been stuffing and double stuffing like a mad woman. I've been hanging out in the laundry room with my spatula scraping off the poo that both Wilson and Callie are now pooping out.

It's not easy, it's not glorious, yes it stinks. But you know what, I can do it. It's not the end of my life, I'm a mother, I wipe butts and clean up puke and spit up, and messes. A little bit of poo and pee is not going to kill me.

I might invest in a couple more diapers though. Last night I had to put Wilson in a pink Bumgenius because well, that's all we had clean! Haha I would've taken a picture but I don't want to scar my kid completely for life.
