Our little boy!

Wow! I can't believe that today has already come and gone! I spent weeks counting down the days and now its already over!

For those who don't know I had my big ultrasound today! I kept waking up randomly throughout the night because I was just so excited and poor Andy didn't go to bed until almost 6 in the morning! I woke up and got him to come to bed but I think he would've been okay staying up.

So our appointment was at 10:15 am and we invited Andy's mom to come. I thought she would enjoy getting to see her grandbaby up on the screen and we could all experience seeing this little man for the first time!

So I went in by myself first because the u/s tech wanted to get all the official shots out of the way for the doctor. She pointed the screen away so I couldn't see anything but I'm glad because I wanted to be able to see our baby with Andy there. When she got all of her shots done and finished inspecting she went back out and got Andy and his mom.

Finally she turned the screen our way and we all got to look and see little baby Kirk! It was probably the coolest thing to date! Finally getting to see whats actually going on in there! That there is a baby in there! Watching him move around! WOW!

First the u/s tech went over everything she had taken pictures of and started from the head. She went over everything and she pointed out the eyes and ears and mouth, worked her way and talked about the neck. When she got to the chest she pointed out the baby's heart and we could see all the chambers just beating away! She pointed out the stomach and kidneys and bladder. Also showed us the spine and his little butt.

I personally was dying of anticipation of her going over the nether regions to tell us if he was a boy or girl. When she finally did she showed just a quick shot and said based on everything she saw that she was 80% sure that he was a boy!

I'd like to think that that is very good odds and she never tells anyone 100% because even still you just don't ever know but she did say from everything she saw that they were boy parts not girl. So there wasn't a problem with him hiding it she just couldn't show us a clear shot because of how he was positioned.

She then moved on and showed us his little legs and feet just moving around. We got a cd with pictures and actual videos of Wilson which is what one of the videos is of.

We couldn't get a very good face shot with the 4d stuff because Wilson's head was basically smooshing against the womb. Personally I find the 4d stuff a bit creepy! And since Wilson was being a bit stubborn all the 4d shots don't look very detailed.

I don't mind because I know 20 weeks is still pretty early to really see definite features and what not.

So all in all based on everything the u/s and doctor could see Wilson is coming along perfectly!
They guesstimate his weight to be 12 ounces and our due date is basically spot on. He was perfect sized everywhere and the largest part of his body was his head. Which if you've seen Andy's head that sounds about right too!

All my measurements were right on target too. I measured spot on where I should be and my weight gain for all 5 months is a total of 8 pounds.

Our doctor was really great and gave us a A+ for this check up.

Andy and I both just really thought we were going to have a boy, hence why we had a name for a boy already picked out and we even called him Baby Wilson even before we knew he was a boy. We are beyond thrilled to now know that we are having a son! Of course healthy is the most important thing but we really wanted to have a boy first. So it's really great to know that our son is healthy and that we are having what we hoped for.

Another 5 months to go!!

Counting down the days!

Most people are counting down the days until Christmas. Andy and I are counting down the days until the 30th which is when our big ultrasound is scheduled. We get to finally see whats going on in there. Make sure everything is going well with Baby Kirk. (Lets hope everything is okay) and hopefully find out the gender!
Andy has a calendar at work that he has been x-ing off the days until the 30th. I thought I was the only one who was going crazy over the waiting but apparently my husband is better at not coming off so crazy about it :)

This weekend was a busy weekend. Our good friends Ross and Carla had an awesome 10 year anniversary party. We were the last ones to show up (stupid work) but we wanted to celebrate their 10 years together even if it was for a short amount of time. We really look up to Ross and Carla. They have an amazing love for one another and it really shows with their amazing family. I constantly joke about how I want to kidnap their adorable kids. All around they are just great people and we feel very lucky to call them our friends.

Saturday we woke up to see snow! Yay... kinda. haha. It looked pretty until the afternoon when it started turning into slush. Andy and I braved the crowds and got our christmas shopping done. Just small presents nothing too crazy but it sure was crowded! When we were done we were pretty exhausted so we relaxed when we got home.

Sunday we woke up to go to Church with Andy's family. When service was over we had to rush to get a couple things because we planned to throw Hannah a baby shower at 2 pm.
We also had a lot of the Kirk family over before the shower so it was great getting to see everyone and wish them a Merry Christmas.

Hannah had a great baby shower and it was so great to see everyone come out and be excited for her and Aaron. I personally loved seeing all the baby clothes. I love little girl clothes they are always just so darn cute! Kristie, our cousin did a wonderful job on Hannah's baby shower cake. It really was just so cute! After playing games and opening presents we got some pictures of Hannah with her baby shower cake.

Afterwards Amy, (our cousin) Hannah (our sister in law) and myself took a group pregnancy shot. Its so fun to see us all in our different weeks of pregnancy!

Introducing Lily Rene Young

On tuesday morning our very good friends, Kris and Amber, started the process of labor and at 8:09 pm, Amber gave birth to their sweet little daughter Lily!
She weighed 7 pounds and 7 ounces and measured at 20 and a half inches long! Since Amber had to be induced we thought she would weigh more so we were suprised to see she did not come out over 8 pounds.
We were waiting at home to see if the happy parents would rather us wait or go to the hospital but they told us to come over. So we threw on some clothes and grabbed some food and headed over there.
When we got there the happy grandparents were there and had been there a while and left a little after we got there.
Even with all of us in the room there, Lily was just sleeping away all bundled up in her little blanket.
While we were there we got to share in Lily's first bath and I have to say it was probably the cutest thing ever!!
She was not happy being moved out of her warm blanket and put into a tub when it was drafty in the room. But once the nurse covered her up with warm wash rags she immediately stopped crying. Anytime the nurse moved her arm or leg she would cry for a couple seconds while the nurse washed off the afterbirth and then immediately stop when the nurse would stop.
We got it on video but I don't think we will be sharing that since that is Kris and Amber's video.

We can't wait to see more of Lily!

Brrr!!

19 days left until Christmas! But more importantly 24 days left until the big ultrasound! We weren't able to get our ultrasound scheduled before Christmas but we got the week after. I'm just happy I don't have to wait until January. I'm already going crazy enough as it is.
Andy and I are pretty convinced we are going to have a boy. That doesn't mean we won't be happy if baby Kirk is a girl, but we are definitely Team Blue. I do so want to have a girl, but I love the idea of having a boy first and then having a girl. Having that big older protective brother! Whether or not it turns out that way is a totally different story.
Yesterday Andy and I braved walmart and did our grocery shopping. It was completely packed in walmart. I apparently was very close to getting a beating from my husband for taking like 5 minutes trying to pick thank you cards. It might have been a little longer than that but it was pretty ridiculous. In my defense I had to weigh the options/prices/designs and pick the ones I liked the best out.
Bought some stuff to make some homemade fudge and peppermint bark but I forgot to buy the chocolate for the peppermint bark! OOPS! I'll have to pick some up later I guess.
After that we went with Kris and Amber to the Minnetrista Light Festival. It was pretty cold out but we were able to walk around look at the christmas decorations in the houses and get some hot apple cider! YUM.

I tried taking a picture on my camera and you can see the lights but it definitely looked more romantic than this. Still we had a great time even though we couldn't feel our faces. Next up making new years plans! This will be our last big New Years before baby Kirk comes into our lives so we really want to try to do something really fun this year. Hopefully we can get something planned!

Thanksgiving

Who else ate a whole bunch for thanksgiving besides me? We went up to Huntington where my dad's fiance lives and had a wonderful time. I cooked some of my awesome mac and cheese and we had tons to eat! Lori made some awesome spinach dip and deviled eggs! YUM My dad cooked a ton too. He made some very delicious Candied Yams and a whole bunch of pies.
They did a great job hosting. I'm so glad to see my dad with someone as nice and fun as Lori.

The weather that day was pretty icky. It was pretty much cold and drizzling outside all day. We all hung out and enjoyed each other's company and had a great time.

Friday was black friday and andy and I had to work so no shopping for us. Which is fine by me. I did buy some clothes online at Old Navy who were having black friday sales online and in store.

I bought my secret santa child a cute outfit and got her a toy this weekend. I so wish I had more money to buy her more things. I hope my gifts will bring a smile to her little face and make her Christmas that much more special.

Now the weekend is over and its back to work. On a more exciting note, Tuesday is my 16 week appointment. Lets cross our fingers I can get my ultrasound scheduled before the year is out!!

So excited!

By my post you might think it has something to do with baby Kirk, but suprisingly it does not!
Andy and I live in a 2 bedroom apartment and when we first moved in together we did not have much furniture. Andy had lived at home so he literally had nothing to bring. We had lots of little things but no where to store it. Well that second bedroom kind of turned into what we called our "Junk" room.
It was embarrassingly packed with tons of junk. Anytime we had guests over we would close the door and hope that no one accidentaly walk into it. My dad would lovingly scold me about how that room needed to be cleaned up. (He lovingly scolds me to clean my whole house all the time by the way.)
So finally after a year of living in the apartment I decided to take some initiative and get it at least some what organized. Andy's mom offered to help and so we tackled trying to get stuff out of the closet to make room for stuff to put in the closet. The room is finally cleaned out!
The most exciting thing though is this:
One of the biggest things we are having a problem with our storage is all our books taking up closet space. So Andy and I compromised and we bought 2 of these bookshelfs! I am so excited to get them and put some of our stuff into it. I feel like I'm slowly finally becoming a real adult with matching furniture! Well its slowly coming together that is. My original plan is to put both bookcases on each end with the tv stand in the middle but with the layout of our apartment and our couches, I dont think that will be possible with out some serious moving everything around.
Eventually thats how I would like it to look but I'll take it as it is now.
I can't wait to get them on Monday! Yay!

14 weeks!

Well today marks the first day of my second trimester! I feel so lucky to have gotten through my first with very minimal nausea. Mostly it was when I didnt eat right away in the mornings which I have never been good at. I would literally force oatmeal or toast down my throat to try to not feel nauseous. I can tell now that I don't have that problem anymore. Course I am still eating but now I don't feel like I have to right away when waking up. I didn't experience any throwing up which is awesome because I really hate throwing up. (Who loves to throw up?)

Also I was worried that with all the eating that maybe I was being unhealthy but I only gained 4 pounds in my first trimester. I'm still not sure if thats a good or bad thing. I've read some women lost weight and some gained like 12 pounds in their first. So I guess I am averaging out. I still haven't really noticed any definite changes. My waist has increased a couple inches but its still not the pregnant belly yet. It definitely sticks out more though!

Still fitting into all my clothes although i wear most of my pants/jeans unbuttoned with the bella band. Its so much comfier for me. Yes I could be vain and button my pants and be like "oh i still fit in my jeans." Because technically I do. But sitting down the pants definitely press into my expanding stomach and its not that comfortable. We will see how much longer I can go with wearing my pants/jeans before I have to bust out the maternity pants/jeans.

Yesterday at work I had a coworker come up to me and tell me that I had the "pregnancy face"
I took that to mean that my face had gotten fatter. LOL he then told me he meant that he could see I had the pregnancy glow. Hmm I don't know about that but I have been lucky enough to avoid the pregnancy acne side affect.

On a last note on the website I frequent they have this food comparison to your growing baby. Which I find weird, and makes me hungry at the same time. Very odd but todays picture is cute.
My little baby is now the size of a lemon! YUM! I mean cute! I think I will take another belly picture when I am 15 weeks or 16 weeks.
Also at 16 weeks I will go in for another appointment and schedule our ultrasound! Can't wait!!

1st Dr. Appointment

On Tuesday I finally got to go to the doctor for my first official prenatal appointment. I knew that I probably wasn't going to get an ultrasound so I figured it was just testing and what not. Well when we got in we learned that our doctor we were supposed to meet with had to step out for a delivery! Not a big deal just kind of funny I mean it is his job and all to deliver babies. He might even deliver mine! So instead we met with a Nurse who did all the testing. I got to do the fun stuff of peeing in a cup. Donating blood and getting "checked out".
Mostly I feel bad for andy I thought it was going to be a bit more eventful since it was our first appointment, but apparently even prenatal appointments aren't that exciting either! So I get done and my next appointment is December 1st. I will be 16 weeks then. I think it will be just another checkup of sorts. Then I will get scheduled for my one and only ultrasound at another 4-6 weeks.
I'm hoping I can get it right at 20 weeks but I guess I will just have to see what I get.
I can already tell that being pregnant is working my nerves . I am impaitent person. I always have been and I think I always will be to some degree, but being pregnant and waiting for these appointments are testing me! I already know I'm going to be one crabby person when baby kirk is due.

6 more days.

So I have about 6 more days until I finally get to go to the doctors and get my first official prenatal checkup. From what I can remember I will be giving blood and urine samples for testing. Getting an oh so fun pelvic examination. And then if I am lucky the doctor will actually tell me I'm pregnant!
But really it has been a bit of a frustration for me. Yes I took pregnancy tests. 5 to be exact. Yes I got to hear the heart beat. Thanks to my own initiative. It's just it doesn't feel real to me yet! I see women on the Babycenter forum where I read posting their ultrasound pictures from anywhere from 6 weeks to 10 weeks. They got to have ultrasounds already and know that their child is growing safely inside them.
I unfortunately don't have that comfort. I keep having daydreams (more like nightmares) about going into the doctors office finally at 12 weeks and them doing an ultrasound and telling me that if there was a baby, it's not there any more. I know I'm just freaking out, but I just can't help it!
Mostly I am probably the most impaitent person, and this has been probably one of the longest wait I've had to go through.

On another note Halloween is this weekend! Andy will be getting to dress up for what I think is his first time! I'm a bit sad that he never got to experience the fun of dressing in a costume and going trick or treating and eating lots of candy. I hope that when our children are older he can kind of live through their joy and get to experience it. Still we are hoping for nice weather and not too cold. Of course this is indiana so we have no idea what we are going to get!

Our First Video of Baby Kirk

At exactly 10 weeks into my pregnancy, Andy and I got to hear the most wonderful sound. The sound of our baby's heart beating. I was originally upset that I wouldn't get to hear or find out anything until my first appointment which isn't until November 3rd. But I took matters into my own hands, researched around and found out that you can rent or buy your own fetal heart doppler.
I decided to rent one and rented it at 8 weeks. You can rent it for 4 weeks so I decided if I couldn't find the heartbeat myself at least I tried and I could go into the doctors.
At 8 weeks I didn't find anything. I wasn't really sure where to even look! The directions say right under your belly button but that made no sense to me. But I fiddled around didn't find anything and put it up for next week.
At 9 weeks I again didn't find anything. I wasn't worried just more disappointed as I really wanted to see if I was imagining being pregnant or if this was really real. (you would think 5 pregnancy test would make it real for me but haha it didnt!)
Finally last friday on exactly 10 weeks, I tried again. As you can see by all the lotion I tried every where! Started off high moved around and was starting to give up again when I moved lower I thought I could hear something. It was faint but I moved it around some more and then bam there it was fluttering away in my ear!
I yelled for andy to grab the flip and told him "I think I found it!!!"
And there baby kirk was. Andy was recording, I was super thrilled. And then I ruined it by moving the doppler just ever so slightly. Or baby kirk got scared and swam away. Who knows but for a brief moment we could hear him/her, and know that he/she was really there. That I wasn't crazy!
Amazing!!

Oh baby!

Wow I haven't updated in a while! So if you are a follower of me on facebook you might have already heard the news that Andy and I are expecting our first child May 14th. We are beyond happy and excited and just a little nervous.
As of today I am 9weeks 6days. So my last post was about the reception party which was on August 29th. Well if my calendar is correct baby kirk was already growing inside but I had no idea! A little tmi but I am a very regular person when it comes to that time of the month. I immediately knew when I had missed my period and took a test that morning.
I was in shock! I mean at first I thought maybe I was just late and over reacting. But as I watched that first line show up and how dark it was! I was just excited! It was around 9:30 am and I immediately took the test and jumped into bed and woke Andy up. He was all groggy and did not know what was going on. I then waved the stick in his face and he then had a huge smile on his face!
I originally was going to try to wait until after 12 weeks to make it public knowledge but Andy and I both just couldn't keep it in. Shoot we didn't even make it past 7 weeks!
Still it's wonderful and exciting. I'll have more posts about baby stuff as we progress. As of right now I'm just kind of sitting around and waiting. My first appointment isn't until November 3rd which is almost 3 weeks away ugh! I'm so impaitent!

Reception Party.

So on August 29, 2009 Andy and I had a reception party which we invited all of our family and friends to join.

At first I was worried that it was also going to rain on this day as it had on our wedding but as luck would have it, it was a wonderful cool breezy day. A perfect day for a party!

First off I have to say, the party was wonderful. Pam, my wonderful mother in law really went above and beyond to plan this party and it turned out so beautifully!

We had the coffee bar open and snacks and mints and cake and little sandwich roll things which I didnt get to try! but they looked delicious!

Andy's cousin Kristie actually made our cakes for us. She made us 2 sheet cakes with chocolate and vanilla and strawberry flavored cake!



As you can see she did this all by herself and did such an amazing job! Thank you Kristie!

Since we weren't having a formal reception we weren't really sure what to expect. We kinda thought people would come and say hi and congratulations and then head out but it turned out the opposite of that!

Everyone hung out chatted each other up, ate some cake and enjoyed their coffee!
We also had our photobook/guestbook which people got to look through and see into our wedding day and sign our book.

All in all it was a wonderful day! We felt very blessed to have such wonderful family and friends!

Memories from our wedding...

So yesterday Andy and I had our reception party and it was amazing! We feel so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends. There was lots of good times yesterday and it was a great day! More on that later though.

I really wanted to talk about our wedding day on June 3, 2009. I will always remember it but I thought it would be nice to share some of the details from our special day. Seeing pictures just isnt enough and you get my (our) perspective of the day! Soo lets start with me constantly checking the weather like 3 weeks in advance. Of course that is way to far in advance to really know what the weather was going to look like but I was nervous about it so I kept checking everyday. About a week before the wedding the weather started to look like it was going to be bad. Every day I would check it would change from chance of rain to slight rain back to chance of rain to slight rain. Up until the day before I was still hoping it wasn't going to rain. Andy and I had originally planned an outdoor wedding at Tuhey Park in the small circular grass area.
as you can see in the picture this was back in april and andy and I wanted to take a look at the spot. A family is having a picnic on this beautiful spring day :) well as it turned out we wake up on Wednesday, June 3rd that is and look out the window and see that it is pretty much raining on our big day. We were disappointed but even rain couldn't stop our excitement. We first had to try to figure out what we were going to do as a backup. We had previously talked to Andy's parents and suggested maybe getting married at their house. So we were thinking we were going to do that.
We went along and started to get our things done, we first went and picked up our little wedding cake at Concannons and here is a funny story. So we go in wednesday morning. The morning rush is already over and we are literally the only people in the store. We walk up to the counter and tell them we have a cake pick up for Gregory (my previous surname) their pickup station is literally right behind them and I see about maybe 3 cakes on the shelves. Since its a wednesday it's not very busy. The lady goes to those first and looks at the names. She then checks them again and by this time has a very confused look on her face. She is then like "I'll go in the back and see if its back there."
By this time Andy and I are already like "What the heck?!?! Its the only wedding on a wednesday where is our cake?!?!" The lady then comes back out even more confused because there is no cake back there and we start to think we won't have a cake at all. I notice though that one of the cakes is in a bigger box and one smaller one and I start to think it is ours. I ask the lady if that is our cake and she goes over to it and says "Well it says Mike Robertson on the box, do either of you know him?" We look at each other and are both like "No." She then goes back to the baker and finds out that that name was written on the box instead of ours. So we were very relieved to find out our cake had been made it just had the wrong name on it, but it was definitely a freak out moment for us. We'll never forget the name Mike Robertson whoever he is.
After that we load the cake up and head to Dandelions to pick up our bouquet and boutineirre.
Luckily there were no problems for us in that area and were absolutely delighted with what we got.
One amazing thing about my bouquet was it smelled absolutely wonderful! I was literally smelling it all day. With our bouquet and cake in tow we then headed to Vera Mae's where we were having our dinner party at after the ceremony. When we got there we met with the head caterer Dave. He knew we had been planning an outdoor ceremony and suggest using the Boardroom. He led us downstairs to the private room and showed it to Andy and I and we immediately asked if it would be possible to move the ceremony down there as well as have the dinner. He was so helpful and said absolutely. So we were no longer worried about that and immediately started calling everyone to tell them to only go to Vera Mae's. I then had to get my makeup and hair done. So we went to the clinique counter and the lady there applied my make up for me. She did a wonderful job at least I think so. I never wear much makeup so I definitely felt done up.
Now the bad news. I hated my hair. The lady was a very nice lady but after all was said and done I just hated my hair. To describe it would be mean but if you can imagine there was lots of hair spray and my bangs were curled in an unflattering way. When we got home I told Andy I hated my hair and he being the gentleman he is said "It doesnt look that bad." Which in guy speak means it's pretty bad.
I started to try to just brush it out but it was so hairsprayed I was getting flakes in my hair. So finally I just stuck my head under the faucet and wash out the poor lady's hard work. We still had plenty of time so I wasn't too worried but I was worried about my make up so I was very careful washing my hair out. I had to shampoo it really good to get the hairspray gunk out of it.
So then I comb my hair out and proceeded to do it myself. I just did a simple half up half down and my bangs brushed to the side. I'm not the greatest with hair but I loved how simple it turned out, and it felt like my hair! No hairspray in it at all.
Finally it was time to head over to vera mae's so Andy and I got ready. We didn't do the not seeing each other thing before hand because we only had 1 car so we had to go together but I got ready in the bedroom and he got ready out in the living room. Him being a guy was ready before me so he waited until I was ready and then I announced I was coming out. I got a very good reaction :)
We then headed over to vera mae's where we met up with our photographer Lance, we immediately started snapping pictures everywhere around the restaurant. Since it was a wednesday and inbetween lunch and dinner there wasn't hardly anyone even at the restaurant.
If you have never been in vera mae's it is definitely a unique place. It's very reminiscent of a time long ago, with it being a pretty old building an all. We took pictures upstairs, by the fireplace, downstairs and outside the building as well. After a little while everyone started showing up. Our officiant started organizing where the ceremony would be held and put chairs together, and our wonderful friend sean started playing his guitar.
Pretty soon it was time to actually do the ceremony. So everyone sat down and Cheryl told me to go just out the door and we would begin once I walked in.
The ceremony itself was wonderful. Andy and I had picked every thing we wanted Cheryl to say as far as the ceremony goes and wrote our own special vows to each other. We inlcude this little excerpt into our ceremony.

From there we thanked Cheryl and took some more pictures and had a small cocktail hour with Meatballs and fruit and cheese kebabs. Andy and I took more pictures and then got ready for our dinner with our family and best friends. We decided to have everyone just be able to pick what they wanted off the menu instead of forcing them to get what we wanted. So everyone got a little different things. A couple people got a really yummy pork chop dinner, the pork chop was huge! Some got steak and Andy and I both picked Salmon. After dinner we all had a good time and talked and soon enough our big day was over. Finally now after everything was over it had finally stopped raining! It was one of the best days of our lives. There was so much love that day!
I hope that even though some of you might not have been able to be there that you can feel like you were! Next up the reception party!

Our First Post

This being our first post you might even be wondering why even keep a blog? I have friends who have kept a blog and loved the idea that even though I don't get to see them all the time I can keep up in their lives. Read little funny stories of things that have happened. See pictures and videos of babies who don't stop growing, sharing their lives with us.
I want more than anything to share our lives with those we love and are lucky enough to call friends. So with that said I am starting a blog. I hope that maybe my husband will want to occasionally want to post in here but we will see how that goes.
Of course right now Andy and I don't have much going on, but a lot is going to change in a few months. Andy is signing up for the Air Force and we have no idea where that will take us. We are excited to start a new chapter in our lives together.

On a side note, I just had my wisdom teeth removed. I still feel a little nauseous but I think that's from all the drugs they gave me. I've been trying to cut back and feel lucky that I took it so well. There is some swelling and my jaw is sore but other than that no other complications!

This next week looks to be an exciting one. Andy is finally going to go in and talk to a recruiter and try to get started in the enlisting process of joining. We are also having a small reception party to celebrate our marriage as we didn't have a big wedding and invite all the extended family. It's crazy to think that 81 days ago we were pronounced husband and wife. Time seems to be flying by really.
